Move over Mr. Yukio Hatoyama. We are seeing another political leader inspiring fashion and clothing . . . The newly elected “new kid on the block” is Philippines’ President-elect Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III.

Just one day away from his inauguration, Noynoy Aquino is enjoying the same popularity that American President Barack Obama enjoyed during the run up to his inauguration.

On June 30, 2010, at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila, Aquino will be sworn into office as the fifteenth President of the Philippines, succeeding Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. Noynoy Aquino’s parents were former President Corazon Aquino and former Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino, Jr. Aquino is a member of the Liberal Party.

Noynoy souvenirs and memorabilia have become hot-sellers. How hot? Hot enough for them to be found on eBay. Items include shirts, watches and pins. The t-shirts show Noynoy’s historical TIME magazine cover or Obama’s motto “Change”. The Noynoy inaugural watches come in different colors and designs.

There is the group Advocacy Beyond Borders which aims to promote meaningful fashion and collective empowerment. They have launched their first project – a limited edition “P-NOY FIRST” shirt. The group sees Aquino as a symbol of new change for the Filipino people, and the shirt was created to advance the advocacy of supporting Aquino.

“The P-NOY FIRST shirt is a symbol of enlivened patriotism. Its quality also challenges the mindset that local branded items are not of good quality. More than anything else, the P-NOY First shirt will be a reminder for all of us that together, as a team and as a nation, we can help President Noynoy improve the lives of the 90 million Filipinos who deserve a new and better Philippines,” said Advocacy Beyond Borders on its website.

The collared shirt is available in black and white. It bears Aquino’s face and P-NOY nickname on the upper left corner of the shirt while the inauguration date “06|30|10” is on the right sleeve. The Advocacy Beyond Borders logo is placed at the back of the shirt. They are still accepting final orders in celebration of the June 30, 2010 inauguration of newly elected President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III.

The P-NOY First shirts are made in the Philippines out of local and eco-friendly materials. Also a portion of the P-NOY FIRST shirt sales proceeds will be donated to Benigno S. Aquino, Jr. Foundation and Gawad Kalinga.
