2010 Winter Olympics Host Video – Tour the Vancouver Olympic and Paralympic Village
Everyone’s bursting with excitement and ready to go! One more day – just hours – before the Opening Ceremonies to the 2010 Winter Olympics at BC Place Stadium in Vancouver, Canada, on Friday, February 12.
Here’s the host video tour of the Vancouver Olympic and Paralympic Village from the VANOC webteam. The Olympic athletes are very impressed with their home away from home … with comfort and downtown waterfront views as well as being one of the most environmentally sustainable neighbourhoods in North America.
During the Olympics, this beautiful Village in Vancouver is home for nearly 3,000 residents of athletes, coaches, and officials from over 80 countries; and during the Paralympic Games, it’s home for about 350 residents from over 40 countries. There’s also another Olympic and Paralympic Village in Whistler with accommodations for about 2,800 Olympic residents and for 1,100 Paralympic residents.
The entire environmentally friendly and sustainable Vancouver Olympic and Paralympic Village is certified LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold Rating , with one building certified at the highest LEED Platinum Rating. LEED certified buildings are to use resources more efficiently when compared to conventional buildings which are simply built to code. LEED certified buildings often provide healthier work and living environments. After the Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Village will be converted into residential housing, a community centre, daycare, retail, and service spaces.
