Sifting through theories of climate change (08 Dec 09) – news video report from Al Jazeera English:

Barack Obama, the U.S. president, has announced steps that could lead to new emissions controls from the United States that does not require approval from the Congress. The recent ruling by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)  about the health dangers of carbon dioxide and five other greenhouse gases would allow the U.S. agency to use the Clean Air Act to regulate industrial emissions, thereby potentially making climate-change legislation and approval from U.S. Congress unnecessary.

The step is groundbreaking in that it paves the way for the U.S.  government to have more control on its industries for the first time and also serves as a boost to the climate conference being held in Copenhagen, Denmark where the EU had called for a stronger bid by the Americans.

As world leaders discuss plans for a more eco-friendly global environment, there are still plenty of theories being challenged by political theorists who consider a range of perspectives in addressing the problem of global climate change.

Some theories are undisputed while many others do not stand up to scrutiny.

Steff Gaulter, a meteorologist with Al Jazeera News, sifts through some of the theories in this report.
