Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) 2009: comparative worldwide rankings

Each year Transparency International publishes its Corruption Perceptions Index, a comparative listing of corruption worldwide. Transparency International, an international non-governmental organization, fights corruption and raises people’s awareness of it.

The Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) measures the perceived level of public-sector corruption in 180 countries and territories around the world. The CPI is a “survey of surveys,” based on 13 different expert and business surveys. However, not every country is covered in each survey.

Transparency International has released its most recent, the 2009 edition of the Corruption Perceptions Index, ranking countries from a scale of 0 – perceived to be highly corrupt, to 10 – places deemed to have low levels of corruption. Here are the 5 least and 5 most corrupted countries:
