Taiwan’s Golden Horse Awards winners 2009

Poster for the film No Puedo Vivir Sin TiLeon Dai was the big winner at this year’s prestigious Golden Horse Awards. No Puedo Vivir Sin Ti, the black-and-white film about a working-class single father who struggles to retain custody of his daughter won best picture, best director, best original screenplay and outstanding Taiwanese film. Leon Dai not only directed No Puedo Vivir Sin Ti, he also produced, edited and wrote the screenplay.

Leon Dai said afterwards, “I especially want to thank this piece of land, Taiwan. It’s this land that nurtured this movie. And we have been working hard to use the nutrition we received to develop this land.”

For the first time in the Golden Horse Awards’ 46-year history, there was a tie as the jurors awarded the best leading actor award to both Nick Cheung of Hong Kong and Huang Bo of Mainland China.

China’s Li Bingbing won the best leading actress award for her part in the thriller, The Message.

Best art direction: Lee Tian-jue, Patrick Dechesne, Alain-Pascal Housiaux for Face

Best makeup and costume design: Christian Lacroix, Wang Chia-hui, Anne Dunsford for Face

Best action choreography: Sammo Hungi, Leung Siu-Hung for Ip Man

Best film editing: Cheung King-wai for KJ: Music and Life

Best sound effects: Cheung King-wai for KJ: Music and Life

Best original film score: Dou Wei, Bi Xiaodi for The Equation of Love and Death
