Taiwan’s Golden Horse Awards nominees
Over the weekend the Golden Horse Film Festival and Awards (臺北金馬影展) announced the 2009 nominees. It is an annual event held in Taiwan since 1962.
Under current regulations, any film made primarily in a Chinese language is eligible. The prestigious Golden Horse Awards are considered to be the Chinese-language “Oscars” and are primarily contested by films from Taiwan, Hong Kong, and the People’s Republic of China. Over the years Hong Kong productions have won most of the awards. The winners of the awards are selected by a jury of judges in the week leading up to the ceremony. The Golden Horse Awards ceremony is also broadcast abroad by Chinese-language television channels as far away as Canada and are styled similarly to the U.S. Academy Awards show. Winners are awarded with a Golden Horse statuette during the broadcast ceremony.
