Moon Festival in Thailand

With fireworks exploding overhead and thousands upon thousands of lights floating down the rivers, Thailand celebrated its Moon Festival on Monday night, November 2.
The Moon Festival takes place on the full moon night of the 12th lunar month of the year. People gathered at river shores to release banana rafts carrying incense sticks and candles which symbolize the releasing of bad luck. Many people take this occasion to atone for their sins or misdeeds. To those living by the river, this is an opportunity for them to appease the water gods.
It is in Thai legend that when a young man and a young woman launch a banana raft together, they’ll be lovers for life.
During the Moon Festival in Thailand, the enormous number of lights floating down the dark rivers is a beautiful sight to behold.
